The 5 Things Anne Ravert Can’t Do Her Job Without

“My Top 5” is a recurring feature in our newsletter that explores what’s working for the people actually doing the work. In each edition, we tap an HR leader to share their essentials: the mantra they repeat to their team, the habit that protects their week, the voices they follow, the practice they won’t give up, and (of course) what they’re reading.
Anne Ravert does HR for a building full of headhunters. She’s SVP of people operations at DSG Global, the executive search firm, which means every colleague she supports evaluates talent for a living and has a view on how she should do her job. She also produces movies. Fourteen so far, plus a TV pilot and a play. Below are 5 things she can’t do her job without.
1. Mantra
“Stronger Together” Each person on the team has specific strengths and insights. When we work together, that is where the magic happens.
2. Productivity Tip
Pre-planning—I spend a block of time at the beginning and end of each week; Reviewing priorities, blocking time for the week ahead, creating draft documents and agendas, and getting organized for the week ahead.
3. Thought Leadership
4. Best Practice
Have an open-door policy. My team, and our employees, know that they can text or call me any time. This builds trust, and enables me to do my best.
5. Best Leadership Book Read in Last Six Months
Amy Smilovic, Almost Reckless.
